BlackBerry Torch 9800 New Incoming with OS 6

RIM’s all new BlackBerry Torch 9800 for AT&T capitalizes on BlackBerry’s historical strength by including awesome keyboard and killer email while featuring a plethora of new features including a proper touchscreen, upgraded camera and the highly anticipated BlackBerry 6 operating system. It will be available August 12th for $199.99 after contract.
You thought sliders were played out? Well think again. Research In Motion may not have invented the slider, but by working hand in hand with AT&T on its development since the project took root in late 2008, they have come very close to perfecting it. With some major upgrades and many subtle refinements throughout the user interface and under the hood, BB6 plays catch up in the smartphone wars. With the Torch, it now delivers to BlackBerry users a modern feeling experience that takes messaging and social media to a new level while placing much more emphasis on traditional media (photos, music, video, podcasts, etc.). The best news of all is the new WebKit rendering engine, which is the same web browser technology behind the iPhone, Android, webOS, and Nokia phones. You can finally enjoy browsing webpages on a BlackBerry.
There’s a lot to cover in this review, so let’s get to it!

In the smartphone market where competition and consumer demands are ever-increasing and tech journalists and Wall Street are becoming less forgiving, BlackBerry 6 is RIM’s response to those who have said they needs to fix their browser and get a more modern operating system. Finally, after months of teasing us with sneak peeks and previews, BlackBerry 6 is hitting the hands of consumers, debuting on the BlackBerry Torch 9800. BlackBerry 6 ushers in a number of new features, subtle tweaks, behind the scenes performance improvements, and a revamped user interface – all aimed at making the BlackBerry experience more approachable, engaging and fun.
Research in Motion set the expectations high when they decided to officially “brand” their device software – prior to this it typically has been known by more geeky nomenclature such as OS 5.0. So does BlackBerry 6 live up to the hype? Is it enough to make existing BlackBerry owners get hooked on BlackBerry all over again and provide the consumer appeal needed for RIM to continue to hold their own in the smartphone wars? Keep reading for a full look at what’s new in BlackBerry 6 and what it means to you.

The BlackBerry Torch is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to ship with our new web browser and we invested a substantial amount of time and effort to engineer a WebKit-based browser that can operate quickly, beautifully and efficiently. In fact, Peter Rysavy today released a new study reporting on the efficiency of the BlackBerry 6 Browser with respect to data usage. We continue to believe that efficiency is an important advantage for our customers and an imperative for the wireless industry.
BlackBerry 6 is scheduled to be first introduced to the market with the BlackBerry Torch on August 12, but I know many of you are also wondering about support for existing BlackBerry smartphones. I am happy to report that BlackBerry 6 will be available in the months ahead (pending carrier certifications) on some of our leading smartphones, including the BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G 9100, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 and BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700.
At RIM we have a long history of building groundbreaking technology, and we are passionate about our products – each day, thousands of RIM employees are focused on enhancing our software, services and smartphones in order to continue meeting your changing wants and needs. The launch of the BlackBerry Torch with BlackBerry 6 is one of the most significant launches in our history and this amazing new smartphone brings together many of RIM’s core strengths into one fluid and superior user experience.
Sony Ericsson to launch with LowPriced Xperia X8
Classed as an entertainment smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 targets price-conscious users looking for a stylish Android handset that doesn’t necessarily have to run the latest firmware. The custom interface is similar to that of the Xperia X10 mini, including customizable corners for one-touch access to your favourite apps.
A brief glance at the Xperia X8 shows a compact handset that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Measuring just 99 x 54 x 15 mm and weighing in at 104 grams, it’s narrower and lighter than iPhone 4. And even though it packs a 3-inch display with capacitive touchscreen, it offers the same 320×480 pixel resolution like the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 3GS.
The 3-inch phone will sell uncloked for a little more than $300 and will come with standard Android 1.6 features and
Sony Ericsson’s software enhancements, like an integrated social feed reader and Facebook app.

Sony Ericsson Aspen The Green machine

Metal parts are generally included in designs to portray a premium look and feel. But according to the company, the materials chosen for the Aspen are greatly influenced by its status as a handset in the company’s GreenHeart portfolio. This means recycled materials and environmentally-friendly processes have gone into the production of the Aspen — a feature that will appeal to treehuggers. The Aspen comes with a standard 3.5mm audio connector on its top edge, so you can use your favourite headphones for music. A micro-USB connector is on the left for charging and syncing. To store music, a microSDHC slot is provided which is found under the battery cover. However, you do not need to remove the battery to access it and Windows Mobile (WM) may often be criticised for being outdated compared with the competition, but it does fulfil business needs. Its compatibility with Microsoft Exchange is good and support for viewing documents is included out of the box. Furthermore, the Aspen will come with WM6.5.3, which is supposed to improve the touchscreen user experience.

Sony Ericsson Spiro
The new Sony-Ericsson Spiro mobile phone provides consumers with the best music experience they have come to expect from Walkman phones but go one step further and marry music with social networking. From Twitter to Facebook, consumers can catch up with friends at just a touch of a button while still listening to their favourite music on the Walkman player. Another key function available on the Sony Ericsson Spiro handset is TrackID – which allows consumers to access the name and artist of a track they hear playing wherever they are. This function has proved popular with music lovers world-wide with 129 million TrackID lookups in 2009 alone.
The Spiro is a compact handset, slide form factor, measuring 92 x 48 x 17mm and weighing a lightweight 90g. The screen is a standard QVGA TFT display, supporting up to 256,000 colours, measuring 2.2 inches point to point. The keys under the display share that common design as seen on many previous Sony Ericsson handsets; flanking the central, circular Navi key are semi circle menu selection keys, which circle around the call send/end keys, although these may change to bespoke action keys, depending on the level of network customisation that goes onto branded devices. The Navi key slightly slopes into the middle where there is a large button for making selections whilst browsing the menu. These main keys also double up as music control keys; pressing up from the main standby on the Navi key quick launches the music player, whilst the side parts of the Navi key operate as fast forward and rewind options. The middle key doubles up for play/pause functionality.
